Our Visions
We’re shifting to a lower-emission energy mix while ensuring security of supply and affordability. This involves phasing out coal, maintaining and upgrading gas power plants to meet peak demand, increasing nuclear power output, and integrating renewable gases into the energy system. Additionally, we are developing battery storage systems to enhance the integration of renewable energy into the European grid.
At the end of 2025, only essential coal facilities, such as the Fiume Santo power plant in Sardinia, Emile Huchet 6 power plant in France, and cogeneration heating plants in the Czech Republic, operated within EPH, as there are currently no local alternatives available. EPH will phase out coal entirely by 2030, the remaining plants will operate under strict regulations to ensure grid stability and provide critical heating supplies.
Successful decarbonization depends on prioritizing both energy security and social justice in emission reduction efforts. Instead of merely closing power plants to reduce emissions, we focus on creating new opportunities. By repurposing old energy assets into more sustainable solutions, we not only lessen environmental impact but also generate new job opportunities.
Clear communication of our position to external stakeholders is a top priority. We aim to provide transparent reasoning behind our actions, recognizing their impact on local communities as well as on banks and bondholders who supply crucial external capital for implementing our transition plan. We understand that these stakeholders rely on this information to make informed decisions.
