EPH Expands Low-Carbon Power Generation in Europe

Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH) continues to advance Europe’s energy transition through major low-carbon investments.

In March 2024, the Group commissioned a 647 MW open-cycle gas turbine (OCGT) plant at Kilroot, Northern Ireland, replacing coal units retired in 2023. The facility ensures reliable supply during peak demand and supports grid stability under long-term capacity contracts.

In Italy, EPH’s subsidiary EP Produzione inaugurated an 800 MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) unit at Tavazzano and Montanaso, investment featuring high-efficiency H-class technology. With efficiency above 62% and a hydrogen-ready design, the plant significantly reduces CO₂ and NOₓ emissions while supporting renewable integration.

“The site’s total capacity now reaches 1,970 MW, supplying power to about 1.5 million households.”

EPH is also constructing another H-class CCGT plant in Ostiglia, set for commissioning in 2026, and developing 270 MW of battery storage projects. Together, these initiatives highlight EPH’s commitment to building a sustainable, flexible, and secure energy future across Europe.
