Slovenské elektrárne is developing SE Integrator, a pioneering project that combines a pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant with a modern battery systém – a first of its kind in Slovakia and unique in Europe.
Built on the modernization of the Čierny Váh pumped-storage plant, SE Integrator will feature two reconstructed turbines and a battery system with up to 80 MW power and 160 MWh capacity. It will also introduce variable-speed technology with the world’s largest frequency converter used in pumped-storage hydropower.

The project will enhance grid flexibility and stability, support renewable energy integration, and help reduce CO₂ emissions. As renewable generation becomes more variable, SE Integrator will balance supply and demand by storing excess electricity and releasing it when needed.
This initiative underlines Slovakia’s role as a leader in innovative, sustainable power engineering – extending the life of key energy assets while strengthening national and European energy security.
